Prince William and Princess Catherine have given royal fans a rare glimpse of the future King like never before—but it’s not the birthday portrait that’s capturing everyone’s attention

Prince George Channels Princess Kate’s Adventurous Side in New Birthday Video — Watch

While Prince George is often compared to his father, Prince William, when it comes to his looks, a recent video showed him channeling his mother’s thrill-seeking spirit.

It must be a bittersweet moment for Prince William and Kate Middleton as their firstborn, Prince George, has now officially entered his teenage years. The young prince celebrates his 13th birthday this Wednesday, July 22nd. And following tradition, Kensington Palace released a special birthday video flaunting his adventurous side.

At the start of the clip, George is seen sporting cool sunglasses and waving to the camera. He can then be seen enjoying himself on a yacht and petting the family’s new pet dog, Otto, at a beach. The young royal also showed off his skill with a cricket bat, knocking the ball in style. But cricket was only the start of the fun—George was later seen clambering over rocks with his younger brother, Prince Louis. “Thank you for all the birthday wishes for George today!” the caption read, alongside a cake emoji. Watch the video here.

George usually prefers to wear formal outfits whenever he makes public appearances. The young prince has often drawn comparisons to his father, William, in terms of facial features. However, in the recently posted 18-second video, the casually dressed young prince exuded his mother’s adventurous spirit. Although Middleton has always been sporty and up for trying different sports, she exceeded all expectations after completing the Three Peaks Challenge. Following her battle with cancer, the Princess of Wales climbed Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon—the highest peaks in Scotland, England, and Wales—in the span of 24 hours.

William and Middleton have seemingly always encouraged their kids to stay active and take on different sports, and they manage to practice what they preach. After the Princess of Wales completed the Three Peaks Challenge, her husband, parents, brother, and three children—George, Charlotte, and Louis—were waiting to hug and congratulate her. Now, seeing the way the young prince scales rough terrain, he has definitely taken a leaf out of his mother’s thrill-seeking book.

Interestingly, Kensington Palace shared two social media posts for George’s birthday: an official portrait and a video. Both posts showcased different sides of the young royal. In the photo, George donned a dark blazer and a crisp white shirt—an uncanny nod to his future Eton College uniform—while the video showed him in a much more relaxed, laid-back light.

This year, George will follow in the footsteps of his father and uncle, Prince Harry, as he begins his secondary education at Eton. His parents are expected to drop him off for his first day of school, and the young prince has already begun preparing for the transition to boarding life through weekly stays at Lambrook School.
