Prince William and Kate Middleton may be set to break royal tradition with a major decision over Prince George’s future. The Prince and Princess of Wales have reportedly butted heads over where to send George, 11, to school when the time comes for him to change at age 13.
Both parents have been arguing for their eldest son to attend their alma maters, with William wanting him to go to the prestigious all-boys Eton College, and Kate wanting him to go to Marlborough College, a co-ed school. Should George attend Marlborough College, it will mean he and his younger siblings can all attend together, something Kate herself loved when she attended the school.

Reports over the years have differed, with OK! reporting in 2023 that William’s push for Eton “finally won” after years of arguments, citing the fact that George “wants to be just like his father”, adding that Kate “finally gave in, she’s still heartbroken”.
However, a few months later, The Mirror went on to report that after “heated debates”, it was Marlborough that won.
“After years of discussion and heated debates between William, Kate, and King Charles, the family have made a choice,” an insider revealed. “They’ve decided that he and sister [Princess] Charlotte will attend boarding school together. They’ll both be students at Marlborough. This way, George and Charlotte will have a few years where they’ll overlap at the same school.”

Now, former BBC Royal Correspondent Jennie Bond has thrown another college into the mix, telling OK! that it was “a big year for George….I imagine the decision about where he goes next has been pretty much sealed by now. I might take a punt on Wellington College.”
“It’s only half an hour from Windsor; the pupils can board (full-time or weekly) or be day students. And..a huge plus….it’s co-educational, which means all three could go there in the future. Sounds ideal to me!”
George, Charlotte and their younger brother Prince Louis attend Lambrook School, which serves children ages three to 13 until they reach year eight.
Jennie referenced the family’s tough 2024 with Kate undergoing chemotherapy for cancer, “I always thought it was a wise decision to keep the children together during their early school years…and I think that has very much proved to be the case, especially during this past difficult year.
“It must have been a huge comfort for the three of them to be together at school when life at home was so full of anxiety (however much William and Catherine tried to shield them). And it seems the school has protected them well and has been admirably discreet about what’s been happening. The children deserve that protection at this unnerving time for them.”
Kate announces she has completed chemotherapy
Kate announced in November that she had completed chemotherapy, sharing in an intimate video with her family, “As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment. The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life, as you know, can change in an instant, and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and unknown road.”
