Princess Beatrice Faces a Difficult Birthday as Royal Family Troubles Continue
Princess Beatrice is approaching her 38th birthday amid a period of mounting pressure for the York family, with renewed scrutiny surrounding her parents and speculation about her own marriage and public standing.
The Princess is due to celebrate her birthday on August 8, but royal author Andrew Lownie believes the year ahead may be particularly challenging for her.
Lownie, author of Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, told the Daily Mail that “much has changed for the York family since Beatrice’s last birthday.”
According to the royal expert, Beatrice is facing several difficulties at once, from the continuing controversy surrounding her family to questions over her future within the Royal Family.
Pressure on the York Family
Lownie pointed to the ongoing situation involving Beatrice’s parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson, as one of the factors contributing to the difficult circumstances.
He said her father remains “under, in effect, house arrest in Norfolk” while facing the possibility of being charged over allegations involving confidential information. He also described her mother as likely still keeping a low profile abroad.
The wider fallout has also included the publication of Lownie’s book Entitled and Virginia Giuffre’s memoir Nobody’s Girl, as well as the release of material concerning the family from Jeffrey Epstein’s papers.
Lownie also highlighted Andrew’s removal of his royal title and his eviction from Royal Lodge, along with questions surrounding subsidised accommodation at St James’s Palace and Kensington Palace for Beatrice and Eugenie despite neither being working royals.
Her Parents Remain Under Scrutiny
Beatrice’s parents have both faced renewed attention over their past connections to Jeffrey Epstein.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has denied wrongdoing related to Epstein. However, the King has stripped him of his title and honours.
Sarah Ferguson, meanwhile, has largely remained out of the spotlight and has been staying in Switzerland.
The continued controversy surrounding her parents has placed further attention on Beatrice and the York family as a whole.
Marriage Speculation Adds to the Pressure
Beatrice’s personal life has also attracted speculation in recent months.
Reports have suggested that she and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, may be experiencing difficulties after the couple did not publicly mark their wedding anniversary on July 17, despite having done so in previous years.
The couple were last seen together publicly at Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling in June, where they appeared relaxed and in good spirits.
Since then, they have largely remained away from public attention.
Mozzi was photographed enjoying himself in St Tropez, while Beatrice reportedly stayed indoors after becoming unwell during the trip.
There has been no confirmation from the couple that their marriage is in trouble.
Beatrice’s Public Popularity Has Also Fallen
Adding another complication, Beatrice has also seen her position slip in recent public-opinion rankings.
A recent YouGov survey found that 34 per cent of respondents had a negative opinion of both Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie.
The sisters ranked only above Mountbatten Windsor and Meghan Markle in the survey.
With controversy surrounding the York family continuing to dominate headlines, Beatrice is now expected to approach her 38th birthday under very different circumstances from previous years.
Rather than the lavish celebrations she once enjoyed, the Princess appears set to mark the occasion while her family continues to navigate a period of intense public scrutiny.
