The vocal demands of “Lay Me Down” are anything but easy. The song features some remarkably high vocal passages, yet Lambert moved through them with seemingly effortless control, combining powerful high notes with a smooth, flexible vocal tone.

The performance has since become one of the most popular clips from the tribute concert, attracting millions of views on YouTube and prompting fans to praise Lambert’s live vocals.

One fan described Lambert as one of the rare singers who sounds even better live than on a recording, while another praised his extraordinary vocals and magnetic stage presence.

The tribute concert took place at Friends Arena on December 5, 2019, and was organized by the Tim Bergling Foundation following Avicii’s death in April 2018 at the age of 28. Proceeds from the event supported organizations focused on mental health and suicide prevention.

The concert featured an impressive lineup, including David Guetta, Aloe Blacc, Kygo, Gavin DeGraw and Rita Ora. Aloe Blacc’s performance of “Wake Me Up” also became one of the event’s most viewed moments online.

For Lambert, however, performing “Lay Me Down” carried an especially meaningful connection. He had helped create the song with Avicii, Arash Pournouri and Nile Rodgers. Avicii and Pournouri produced the track, while Rodgers contributed his unmistakable funk guitar.

Years later, Lambert’s performance gave the song a new life — transforming a tribute to a lost collaborator into a joyful, electrifying celebration of the music they created together.
