While Buckingham Palace has kept every detail behind closed doors and no photographs have been released, the quiet gathering has sparked fresh speculation that relations may finally be thawing after years of public tensions. As royal watchers look for clues about what really happened during the emotional reunion, many are wondering whether this private moment could become the turning point that changes the future of the family

HARRY and Meghan took Archie and Lilibet to meet Charles and Camilla at Highgrove in an extraordinary act of reconciliation.

The King and Queen hosted them at the home but sources insist it was a “private family occasion” and no photos will be published.

It is the first time Charles has met his grandchildren since 2022 and only the second time he has met Lilibet, 5.

Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes are not commenting any further on the meeting which it is understood took place on Friday afternoon after Harry was in Birmingham for his Invictus Games launch.

The meeting was announced by Buckingham Palace at 6.42pm.

They simply said the King and Queen hosted the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet earlier in the afternoon at Highgrove.

But it is their first family gathering since the shock claims made by the Sussexes in their six-part Netflix documentary six months later.

Since Charles met Lilibet and Archie, during the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June 2022, Harry also blasted his family in his tell-all book Spare even calling Camilla a “wicked step-mother”.

Harry has met his dad alone twice in the last two years after he jetted back when he discovered he had cancer and a short face-to-face at Clarence House last September.

Discussions about the family meeting are understood to have been held ever since Harry announced months ago he would be in the UK this week.

The Sun first revealed in January, he wanted to bring Meghan and it later emerged he would bring Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5.

But plans were thrown into disarray when Harry moaned about his failure to get armed security and the King’s patience “snapped” over his dithering.

Just hours after landing he was humiliated after losing his £50m media trial and blasted the court’s decision as a ‘whitewash’.

Meghan arrived with the children today but is not attending any public events with her husband.

Ingrid Seward, royal expert and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, said: “I’m sure some strict rules and protocols were laid down before the visit.

“Once that was decided, the King would have been at his most charming and would have been delighted to show his grandchildren round Highgrove which is his pride and joy.

“I’m sure Charles felt that he had to find time to do this while the whole family were here and if he didn’t do it now it would become an insurmountable problem, it had to be dealt with.

“It had to be in a royal residence and Highgrove works for him well plus it was Harry’s home for many years.

“I can’t see them being happy families forever but its an interim truce. It’s a diplomatic intermim moment, It had to be done for Harry for the King and for the grandchildren.

“Camilla being there would have been her choice Charles wouldnt have forced her.

“He needed Camilla there a man needs his wife there at potentially awkward moments.

“It looks much better if Harry and Charles turn up with their wives Camilla and Meghan so there is no sign of a snub.

“I think it’s absolutely right there are no photos or anything from the meeting it has to be clear this was to be private and kept private and that way they can repeat it.

“But if Harry is going to leak anything to press it won’t be repeated.

“I also feel Meghan needed the stardust of royalty to make her look more relevant than she is at this moment.”

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes declined to comment.
