Prince William and Princess Kate have continued a busy schedule of public engagements while Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s return to Britain remains surrounded by debate over security, their children’s schooling and their position outside the working Royal Family.

The contrast was highlighted in an opinion column published this week, which argued that the Prince and Princess of Wales’ recent public duties presented a very different picture from the headlines surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. That comparison is the columnist’s interpretation rather than an official Palace assessment.

William and Kate recently appeared together in Liverpool to launch “On Your Side: A Suicide Prevention Toolkit for People in Sport,” an initiative designed to provide practical support around suicide prevention within sporting communities.

The engagement is confirmed in the Royal Family’s official Court Circular, which records that the Prince and Princess of Wales launched the toolkit at Hill Dickinson Stadium on September 10 as joint patrons of the Royal Foundation.

The project reflects an issue William has increasingly incorporated into his public work: encouraging sporting organizations and communities to recognize mental-health crises and provide meaningful support.

William has also previously participated in suicide-prevention initiatives. In May, he opened James’ Place in Birmingham and joined a meeting of the National Suicide Prevention Network.

Their official schedule remains active, with the Royal Diary also listing William and Kate for another joint engagement on September 17.

Harry and Meghan Face a Different Set of Headlines

Harry and Meghan, meanwhile, have attracted attention since returning to Britain with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

The article claims their children changed schools shortly after beginning term because of difficulties surrounding security and travel arrangements. It also points to continuing discussion over Harry’s security arrangements in Britain and reports concerning an official threat assessment.

Those issues have become part of a broader debate over how the Sussexes should operate after stepping away from working royal duties and establishing an independent life.

The Express opinion piece portrays those developments as evidence of a troubled return. However, its more critical descriptions of Harry and Meghan — including the suggestion that William and Kate have “shown them up” — are editorial judgments rather than established facts.

Two Very Different Royal Narratives

The contrast nevertheless illustrates how differently the two couples now operate.

William and Kate remain working members of the Royal Family, with their engagements recorded through official royal channels. The Court Circular describes itself as the official record of engagements undertaken by members of the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan, by contrast, no longer perform the same working-royal role, meaning their public appearances, family decisions and security arrangements operate under a different framework.

That distinction has become increasingly visible since their return to Britain.

While headlines continue to follow the Sussexes’ security situation and family arrangements, William and Kate’s recent appearances have centered on their established public duties — creating two sharply different stories around the brothers and their families, even as both are once again based much closer to home.
