What began as a heated argument outside a Florida Walmart ended in tragedy when 62-year-old Army veteran and former trauma nurse Bart Diguglielmo was fatally shot. The woman involved claims she acted in self-defense, while video of the confrontation is now at the center of the investigation.

A 62-year-old man has died after being shot by a woman following an argument over a Walmart parking space in North Lauderdale, Fla.

The fatal scene, which happened around 12:28 p.m. local time on Tuesday, June 30, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, was captured on cell phone video by others in the parking lot. The footage, shared via WPLG Local 10 and NBC 6, showed the woman holding up the gun while the two appeared to be in a heated argument.

At one point, Bart Diguglielmo, 62, took a step toward the woman and she fired into his stomach, before he was seen falling to the ground. The woman then waited for police to arrive.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office shared in a release that Diguglielmo had been transported to the Broward Health Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police confirmed that the two had been in an argument over a parking space prior to the shooting. According to the release, the unidentified adult female shooter remained at the scene, cooperated with police and said she shot Diguglielmo in self-defense.

The woman was not arrested at the scene. Upon completion of the investigation, homicide detectives will pass the case to the State’s Attorney’s office for review, according to the release.

PEOPLE has reached out to the Broward Sheriff’s Office for additional information, but didn’t immediately hear back.

Diguglielmo’s daughter, Amanda, spoke with Local 10, calling her father a “good man” and sharing that he previously served in the military and was a former ER trauma nurse.

He was also a father of three.

Amanda tearfully noted that nobody “deserves to lose their life over a parking spot.”

While hesitant to speak out, Amanda said she did so to honor her father’s memory.

“I heard one news site say it was over a parking spot,” Amanda told Local 10. “Another says it was because my dad was making some type of advance towards the woman, which I will completely debunk because my dad is not that person. He’s not perfect, but not someone that would do this to this extreme.”
