A Bridgerton actress has played coy over returning for the upcoming series.

The beloved franchise will return in 2027, starring Hannah Dodd and Masali Baduza as Lady Francesca Stirling and Michaela Stirling as their love story develops.

The Shonda Rhimes production, based on Julia Quinn’s novels, first aired in 2020, following the romance between Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page).

The subsequent two installments then saw eldest Bridgerton sibling Anthony (Jonathan Bailer) wed Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), and third Bridgerton son Colin’s (Luke Newton) steamy romance with the real Lady Whistledown author, Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan), before the attention turned to Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) falling for Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

As fans have been left patiently waiting for more details over season five, one star has now addressed their return, while opening up about their time filming on season four.

Gracie McGonigal starred as serving girl Hazel, becoming a close friend of Sophie after working together at Bridgerton house.

Speaking exclusively at the National Film Awards, Gracie told Wales Online: “It was incredible, it was really hard to keep under wraps, I wasn’t allowed to say anything to any of my friends and family but it was absolutely unbelievable.”

She went on to discuss how the latest season gave fans more of an insight into the goings on of the characters “downstairs”, adding: “Bringing that different energy to the show, feeling like something new four seasons in, something you don’t get all the time, it was lovely to do that.”

Praising co-stars Luke and Yerin as “unbelievable” actors, Gracie went on to admit she’s a big fan of “everyone in the show”.

“With something as amazing as Bridgerton, I’m still looking around like, ‘Ah I love your work!’”

When probed on possibly returning for the fifth season, Gracie coyly replied: “TBC, I cannot confirm or deny, but I’m excited for it nonetheless!”

Previously teasing what fans can expect in season five, Francesca actress Hannah and Michaela actress Masali spoke about leading the historic series, which will focus on a queer love story.

“It feels groundbreaking. Obviously, there are a lot of great shows that have depicted queer love. We’re not the first by any means,” showrunner Jess Brownell told Netflix Tudum.

“But to make an entire Bridgerton season about a sapphic relationship feels huge.”

Hannah said: “[Queer love stories] have traditionally been excluded from things like period dramas — and queer people did exist, have always existed, and will always exist.”

Masali added: “It’s been really special to have Jess guide us on this journey, because she’s very excited about this story. What we really want to achieve is giving a realistic view of queer love onscreen and [giving them] a happily ever after.”
