Gethin Jones has been issued a “warning” by the BBC after failing to stick to on-air guidelines.

The presenter, 48, has been a familiar face at the broadcaster for decades now, having started out on Blue Peter before going on to The One Show and, since 2020, he has been one of the key presenters on Morning Live.

It has now emerged that he has been plugging products whilst on screen and was spotted wearing a host of timepieces from the brand Clogau, for which he is an ambassador, whilst he fronted the BBC morning show, on which he features alongside Helen Skelton and Michelle Ackerley.

BBC guidelines make it clear that presenters “must not appear on-air wearing clothing or using products or services which they have been contracted to promote,” and now bosses have had to step in and raise the issue with Gethin himself.

A spokesperson from BBC Studios told The Mail on Sunday: “We have clear guidelines around presenters’ commercial activities, and Gethin has been reminded of these.”

The former Strictly Come Dancing star has sported numerous watches from the high-end design company in recent months, including one watch that is valued at £550.

Another one retails at £420, and, just days ago, Gethin was spotted with a black bezel, which he has so far worn more than 30 times on air, according to the outlet.

A source told the outlet: “It is completely unacceptable. Stars are blatantly flouting the rules. Clearly, there is not adequate monitoring. Gethin has worn these pieces for months now, unnoticed by producers and line managers.”

Gethin, who has been an ambassador for Clogau for more than a decade, also boasts almost 200,000 followers on Instagram and he regularly posts sponsored images promoting its jewellery. Gethin is just the latest BBC star to get a telling off for not sticking to the rules.

Former This Morning star Monty Don, 70, made an appearance in a £300 Barbour jacket while filming Gardeners’ World, shortly after he appeared in an ad campaign for the clothing brand.

The Mirror revealed that the jacket features in promotional material for Barbour’s Way of Life campaign, which prompts fans to “shop the look” showcased by the TV star.

At the time, the BBC stated: “We have clear guidelines around presenters’ commercial activities while working with the BBC, and Monty has been reminded of these guidelines.”
