Savannah Guthrie’s Today show co-star reduced to tears live on air after unexpected moment
The Today show was filled with emotions as viewers saw Sheinelle Jones get swept away by an adorable family moment caught by the cameras in NBC’s NYC production studios

During an episode of the Today show, Sheinelle Jones got vulnerable.
The journalist released her book, “Through Mom’s Eyes,” on April 14. Her co-hosts, including newly returned Savannah Guthrie, showered her with support over her latest career endeavor. After all, it wasn’t an easy one. Sheinelle faced adversity as she worked on the project. Her husband, Uche Ojeh, died in May 2025. Subsequently, she pushed back, her release date by nearly a year.
However, even sweeter, her three children — Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche Jr, 13 — joined her in the studio to celebrate. They handed her a famed print of her book titled with a bouquet of flowers. Sheinelle was brought to tears by the adorable moment. “I promised [Uche] I wouldn’t give up on this,” she said. Sheinelle suffered another family tragedy just after her late husband’s death.
The co-hosts on the Today show proved they’re more like a family in the months following the disappearance of Savannah’s mother, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old was reported missing on February 1. Authorities arrived to her Tucson, A.Z. home and immediately sent out a search and rescue team. However, they suspected there was something more insidious at play.
Homicide investigators were put on the case based on clues from her home, which was deemed a crime scene. However, over two months later, the woman has yet to be found or returned.

Authorities believe she was likely abducted, especially after retrieving video cam footage from her doorbell camera, which showed a masked man entering her home overnight.
Plus, their fears seemed to be confirmed when ransom notes began to tricked into the media. Some of these letters were investigated and thrown out as fakes, but the Guthrie family did proceed with one as if it were real. The note requested bitcoin in return for her return, and the family requested proof of life.

Ultimately, while the family agreed to pay, no money seemed to move, and Nancy remained missing. Throughout the search, NBC anchors, including those for the Today show, frequently gave updates on the disappearance, begging individuals with knowledge to come forward. They would often get specifically supportive of their friend.
Savannah faced a difficult decision: whether or not to remove to the show and public sport. Ahead of her ultimate return, Savannah visited the studio in New York City privately.

She thanked the team for “caring about my mom as much as I do.” Savannah added, “I wanted you to know that I’m still standing, and I still have hope, and I’m still me. And I don’t know what version of me that will be, but it will be.”
When she returned to the show, she was met with fans at Rockefeller Plaza who held up signs of support.
