Fans give verdict on sacking Tuchel in exclusive Sun poll as debate over England boss’ future splits public and pundits
SUN readers have given their verdict on whether Thomas Tuchel should remain in charge of the England national team – and it’s not good news for the German.
Tuchel, 52, oversaw a gutsy run to the semi-finals before the Three Lions suffered heartbreak against Argentina.
But Tuchel received criticism for his defensive subs in the game, including bringing on Ezri Konsa, Dan Burn and Nico O’Reilly to try and preserve the lead after Anthony Gordon‘s opener.
However, the former Chelsea boss defended his position by explaining the team had lost control of the game by not keeping the ball, and made subs to try and plug the gaps in the defence.
The FA are launching a full probe into the summer performance that will include an assessment of Tuchel.
His contract runs until after the 2028 Euros, and he is understood to maintain the full support of The FA.
Insiders are said to be sympathetic to Tuchel’s situation, given they do not believe he ever told the team to adopt a defence-first approach – which came into play straight after Gordon’s goal in the 55th minute.
Indeed, the stats show England had just 12 per cent possession after taking the lead, a shockingly low figure for one of the best four teams at the tournament.

And it revealed that a whopping 58.32 per cent of readers did not want Tuchel to continue as England gaffer.
Ex-Manchester United star Nicky Butt was among those to call for Tuchel to leave, while Gary Lineker stopped short of calling for his head but also raised questions about his future.
In the other camp, 32.38 per cent were happy to keep faith with Tuchel to lead the Three Lions into the Euros in two years time.
Meanwhile, 9.3 per cent were unsure.
Regardless, the legacy of the tournament will be hotly debated by fans, media and pundits alike in the coming days, weeks and months.
Many accused Tuchel of making “cowardly” subs in the match, while sources say England stars who had seemingly blamed the German for shrinking away from the fight had actually aimed the criticism at themselves.
Tuchel will have to get the naysayers back onside if he does carry on as England boss, while those who do support him will hope to have that faith repaid with some silverware.
