The family of a 20-year-old man who was fatally stabbed following a car crash in Staffordshire have paid tribute to their “wonderful son,” remembering him for his love of cricket, fitness and his zest for life.
Jamie Evans, from Stone, was attacked on Friday afternoon after his red Ford Fiesta was involved in a collision with a grey Audi in Newcastle-under-Lyme.
Emergency services were called to the scene, where members of the public tried to help Jamie before paramedics rushed him to hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical teams, he later died from his injuries.
Family Remember Jamie as Full of Energy and Determination
Jamie’s relatives, who are being supported by specialist officers, described him as someone who embraced life and loved staying active.
In a statement released through Staffordshire Police, his family said:
“Jamie was so passionate about cricket and fitness, enjoying every opportunity to be active, challenge himself and spend time doing the things he loved. These passions reflected his determination, energy and zest for life.
“Although his life was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
“He will be deeply loved, profoundly missed and never forgotten.
“We’d like to thank the members of the public who so kindly went to Jamie’s aid and tried to help him.”
Two Men Arrested on Suspicion of Murder
A murder investigation was launched shortly after the fatal attack.
Staffordshire Police confirmed that two men, aged 22 and 20, had been arrested on suspicion of murder. Both suspects are from the local area and remain in police custody.
Detective Inspector Stephen Ward stressed that the investigation was still at an early stage as officers worked to establish exactly what happened before and after the collision.
“We are working hard to understand more about what happened leading up to the driver of the vehicle losing his life,” he said.
“We are in the process of carrying out forensic, CCTV and house-to-house enquiries to establish the circumstances.”
Police officers have been conducting forensic examinations and reviewing CCTV footage as they piece together the events surrounding Jamie’s death.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the crash, the subsequent confrontation or anything suspicious in the area to come forward.
