A one-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after a dog allegedly lunged at his pushchair and bit him in the face, prompting police to launch an urgent appeal for information.
Officers were called to Shirley Precinct in Southampton at around 3.20pm on August 21 after receiving reports that a young child had been bitten by a dog.
The animal, believed to be a German Shepherd, reportedly lunged towards the pushchair and made contact with the toddler’s face.
The boy suffered two small puncture wounds as well as grazing to his face and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has since launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police have released a CCTV image of a woman they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.
She is described as white, around 5ft 7ins tall and of large build.
The dog she was with is believed to have been wearing a soft, mesh-style muzzle at the time of the alleged attack.
Officers are now urging the woman pictured, or anyone who knows who she is, to come forward.
A police spokesperson said: “If this is you, or if you know the woman, please call police on 101, quoting 44260407684.
“Also, if you witnessed the incident, or have any relevant information, please contact us.”
Police are also appealing to anyone who may have seen what happened at Shirley Precinct that afternoon or who may have information that could help establish exactly how the child was injured.
The investigation remains ongoing.
