Sasha Farber Hopes Selma Blair Could Return to Dancing With the Stars After Arrest: ‘It Would Be Cool’

Sasha Farber has expressed hope that Selma Blair could one day return to Dancing With the Stars, describing the actress as family and praising her strength as she faces renewed scrutiny following an alleged mid-flight incident that led to her arrest.

Farber, 42, who partnered with Blair on the ABC dance competition in 2022, shared his thoughts while attending the Minky Couture x Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea event in New York City on Friday.

“I love Selma, I got to chat with her. Thinking of her — she’s just like family,” Farber told the Daily Mail. “You know, once you do the show, [you] literally become family.”

The professional dancer added that he loves Blair “to bits,” describing her as “incredible” and “so strong.”

Asked whether he would like to dance with the actress again, Farber made clear that he would welcome the opportunity.

“I would love to dance with her again. She was so good, and it would be cool to maybe bring her back,” he said.

“It would be so cool because with all her injuries and with MS, it was really hard. She had to forfeit. So why maybe not come back?”

Farber Reflects on Blair’s Battle With Multiple Sclerosis

Blair competed on Season 31 of Dancing With the Stars alongside Farber but withdrew after the fifth week because of complications related to her multiple sclerosis (MS).

At the time, the actress explained that medical tests had made it clear she could no longer continue in the competition.

“I’ve been monitored and in touch with my doctors this whole process. I had these MRIs and the results came back, and it just all adds up to, I can’t… I can’t go on with the competition,” Blair said in a clip shown during her final episode.

She added emotionally that she had “pushed as far as I could.”

When questioned if Blair has plans to continue dancing in the future, he told the Daily Mail, 'I would love to dance with her again. She was so good, and it would be cool to maybe bring her back'; seen in September in Beverly Hills

Farber, however, believes ballroom dancing offered Blair something meaningful despite the physical challenges she faced.

“I think with MS, ballroom dancing is something that really helps,” he said, recalling how she had described him as her “walking stick” while they danced together.

“I remember dancing with Selma and she explained to me that I became her walking stick. And when we danced, you know, I was holding her up.”

He recalled that when the music stopped, Blair could struggle to walk and sometimes lose feeling.

“So ballroom dancing and partnering is very, particularly ballroom dancing, is great for MS,” Farber said.

His comments reflect the bond the pair developed during their time on the show, when Farber supported Blair through a demanding competition while she managed her condition.

Blair Has Also Expressed Interest in Returning

Farber is not the only one who has considered the possibility of Blair returning to the ballroom.

In a recent appearance on The Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, recorded before the incident aboard her flight, Blair spoke about how difficult it had been to leave the competition early.

She explained that her withdrawal also meant Farber had to end his season, making the decision even more disappointing.

“That meant that, like, Sasha had to be done with the season, and I loved it,” she said.

Blair also reflected on a long-held dream of becoming a dancer and described her experience on the show as something special.

“To have that moment, I loved it. And it felt very old Hollywood. Right? It felt like a variety show. Totally. It felt incredible,” she said.

When asked whether she would consider returning if given the opportunity, Blair responded enthusiastically: “Oh my God, I would love to.”

Her comments suggest that, despite the challenges that forced her to withdraw in 2022, the experience remained deeply meaningful to her.

Blair Faces Charges Following Alleged In-Flight Incident

Farber’s comments come as Blair faces legal proceedings following an incident aboard a Delta flight traveling from Los Angeles to New York earlier this month.

The 54-year-old actress has been accused of assaulting members of the flight crew and attempting to open an aircraft door during the October 11 flight. She has pleaded not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault stemming from allegations that she kicked a Port Authority Police Department officer and a hospital nurse.

According to the legal complaint, Blair allegedly struck a flight attendant and bit another during the flight, leaving both with injuries. One reportedly sought medical treatment.

Authorities also alleged that, while being transported by ambulance from John F. Kennedy International Airport’s Terminal 4, Blair removed her leg from the stretcher straps and kicked a Port Authority police officer in the face, neck and chest.

The complaint further alleges that she kicked a registered nurse in the chest after arriving at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Prosecutors said the officer reported pain and a swollen jaw.

Blair’s attorney, Shawn Barnes, has disputed the suggestion that the alleged assaults were intentional.

“This was not an intentional assault,” Barnes told the court, according to Page Six.

Her legal team said Blair had missed several doses of a powerful medication used to control severe neurological symptoms associated with her MS. Barnes also told the court that she had been working long hours before traveling and had fallen and hit her head during the flight.

According to her lawyer, the combination of those circumstances and the effects of altitude resulted in severe confusion and disorientation.

Blair was arraigned on October 12 and released on bail. She is scheduled to appear for a hearing on January 19.

Her Representative Challenges the Public Account of Events

Following the incident, Blair’s representative issued a statement disputing several details that had circulated publicly.

“Since Sunday night, the public account of what happened to Selma aboard a flight to New York has been built almost entirely on a police statement and a decade-old headline,” the spokesperson told People.

The representative maintained that Blair experienced a medical emergency and denied that she had attempted to open the aircraft door.

“Selma did not intend to harm anyone,” the statement added.

The spokesperson also defended Blair’s publicly documented MS diagnosis, which she disclosed in 2018, describing suggestions that she did not have the condition as “outrageous.”

The statement noted that Blair continues to experience painful symptoms and also has pseudobulbar affect, a neurological condition associated with her MS that can affect how emotional episodes appear to others.

Her representative also said Blair travels with a service dog who remains close to her and claimed that authorities took the dog away from her during the incident.

Emphasizing that Blair had never previously been arrested, the spokesperson urged the public to consider the full circumstances before reaching conclusions.

“There is much more to this story than has been reported, and we ask to consider the entirety of the facts before rushing to judgment, whether in the courtroom or in the court of public opinion,” the statement concluded.

Blair’s representative did not immediately respond to the Daily Mail’s request for further comment.

Blair Opens Up About Her Past Relationship With Alcohol

The flight incident has also brought renewed attention to Blair’s personal struggles and her history of using alcohol to cope with pain and other symptoms.

In the previously recorded interview with Jenny McCarthy, the actress discussed how she had turned to alcohol from a young age to manage headaches, anxiety, nerve pain and difficulty sleeping.

She acknowledged that drinking had not been a healthy solution, particularly when she was struggling with depression.

“And when you’re depressed that is never going to be a good solution,” Blair said. “And I was just always feeling tired and depressed and that was horrible.”

She explained that she does not follow a traditional recovery lifestyle centered on Alcoholics Anonymous, but said she cannot drink.

“I don’t live like a sober sober lifestyle with AA, but drinking, no, I cannot do,” she said.

Blair added that she sometimes wished she could enjoy a couple of glasses of wine without negative consequences.

“I wish I could be someone that could have two glasses of wine and just be flirty and fun and listen better,” she said.

“But I’m still a human being, but I recognize that alcohol is not good medicine for me.”

The actress also revealed that she continues to take antidepressants and feels afraid to stop, even at a low dose. She said she does not take painkillers.

After the interview clip was shared on Instagram, McCarthy clarified that the conversation had been recorded before the recent events involving Blair, adding that she had nothing but love for the actress.

Blair Makes Public Appearances After the Incident

Despite the controversy, Blair has begun appearing in public again. She attended 90s Con in Connecticut the previous week and was later seen taking a walk in Los Angeles with her 15-year-old son, Arthur, and her service dog, Scout.

Her representative’s statement urged the public not to rush to judgment while the legal case proceeds.

For Farber, meanwhile, the focus remains on his former dance partner and the possibility of sharing the ballroom with her again.

Whether Blair will eventually return to Dancing With the Stars remains uncertain. But both she and Farber have spoken warmly about their experience together, leaving open the possibility of a reunion should the opportunity arise.
