On the heels of Mayor of Kingstown’s brutal Season 4 finale, Paramount+ has officially renewed the Jeremy Renner-led crime drama — but with a major catch. Season 5 will also be the show’s last. The fifth and final season will run for eight episodes, down from the 10-episode orders that defined Seasons 1 through 4. Renner is set to return as Mike McLusky, alongside Edie Falco, who joined the series in Season 4 as Kingstown’s formidable new warden and is expected to remain central as the story reaches its conclusion. Collider can confirm that production on the final season is set to begin imminently.

“Season 5. Rebirth. Renewed, here we go. Back to work this year, we’re excited, and I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone, and I love you.”

He also followed up with a message in the caption, expressing how thankful he was, and crediting the show’s audience for carrying it this far.

“I find myself in deep gratitude this gorgeous morning. After a rebirth, today, announcing a renewal of Mayor of Kingstown Season 5… what a blessing… and it’s all because of the amazing, dedicated fans. Thank you.”

The decision also makes Mayor of Kingstown the first ongoing Sheridan series to receive an official end date following Paramount+’s recent regime change. Since Skydance’s acquisition of Paramount Global in August, the streamer has doubled down on Sheridan’s universe, renewing Landman, Tulsa King, and Lioness. Paramount’s new streaming chief Cindy Holland has previously called the Sheridan slate “a really great foundation” for the platform — even as Sheridan himself prepares for a major move to NBCUniversal in 2029.

How Did Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 End?

Season 4 ended with Kingstown engulfed in a violent gang war, as Mike’s grip on the city weakened following the collapse of Russian power. The finale pushed those tensions to a brutal climax, setting the stage for a final chapter focused on consequences. Series co-creator Hugh Dillon previously revealed that Sheridan has long had an endpoint in mind — one that originally stretched as far as Season 7.

“[Sheridan] has an ending for it in Season 7. Whether it goes that far or that’s where we get [who knows], but he has an ending, and everyone knows about it.”
