As Prince George prepares to begin life at Eton College this autumn, royal experts say he’ll arrive with something his father never had during his own school years: a stable family life.
Prince George is preparing to follow in Prince William’s footsteps by enrolling at Eton College this September—but royal experts believe the similarities largely end there.
William arrived at the prestigious boarding school in 1995 while his parents’ marriage was publicly unraveling. Just two years later, he was coping with the devastating loss of Princess Diana, with Eton becoming a place of stability during one of the most difficult periods of his life.
George, by contrast, is expected to begin his secondary education from a very different position. According to royal commentator Robert Jobson, the 12-year-old will arrive supported by a close-knit family, with Prince William and Princess Kate working together to prepare him for the transition. George has already spent time as a weekly boarder at Lambrook School to help ease the move and is said to have developed a love of history, football and hockey.
The Waleses reportedly chose Eton not only for its academic reputation but also because of its close proximity to Windsor, allowing George to remain near home while beginning life at one of Britain’s most prestigious schools.
While William found refuge at Eton during a turbulent chapter of his childhood, experts believe George’s experience is likely to begin on much steadier ground—offering the young royal a very different start to his teenage years.
