Tracker' Midseason Finale Ends on a Cliffhanger—With Colter's Life in Danger - Parade

Tracker has officially tracked down a Season 4 renewal. According to a recent report, the fan-favorite Justin Hartley-led procedural is joining CBS’ ever-growing renewal lineup to come back for another season in (presumably) the fall. To say Tracker’s renewal was a surprise would be a massive lie, as the title was recently revealed to be the second most-watched show of the 2024-2025 season, trailing just behind ABC’s breakaway hit, High Potential. In great company, Tracker was just one of the network’s original titles to rake in high viewership numbers, with Matlock, George & Mandy’s First Marriage and Elsbeth (each of which has also been given the renewal greenlight) also breaking into the Top 10.

As so many terrific projects are these days, Tracker pulls its foundation from a novel. In the case of the missing persons-centered series, it takes its plotline from Jeffery Deaver’s bestselling novel, The Never Game. Unlike other shows of its kind that feature a sprawling ensemble working side-by-side to solve crimes, Tracker focuses largely on a single protagonist — Hartley’s Colter Shaw — who has a wide breadth of knowledge and a special set of skills when it comes to venturing into the unknown and tracking down missing people. Beyond the sort of case-of-the-week procedural footsteps that Tracker follows, there’s also plenty of family drama and mystery surrounding the man himself. Meanwhile, there are a handful of supporting characters who pop in and out to assist Colter on his missions.

We last left off with Tracker’s third season well over a month ago on December 14 during the episode, “Good Trouble.” As so many midseason finales do, this one left viewers on a cliffhanger after Colter and his companion, John Keaton (Brent Sexton) were involved in a very serious car accident. With its Season 4 renewal now officially announced, it doesn’t seem likely that the creative team will kill Colter off when the show returns in March, but the fate of John will be up in the air for several weeks.

Will ‘Tracker’s Best Guest Star Return in Season 4?

Even though he’s a lone wolf type, Colter couldn’t do his difficult job alone. Lucky for him, he’s got a trained team just a phone call away. But, if we had to pick, the greatest asset to Colter’s search for the truth is his long-estranged brother, Russell, who is played by The Boys and Supernatural’s Jensen Ackles. To get out of their latest jam together, the Shaw brothers faked Russell’s death at the top of Season 3, but now that Season 4 is on the way, we certainly hope the team will find a way to bring the siblings back together again.
