Eric Stonestreet is opening up about being one of the guests at Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s star-studded nuptials.

“It was awesome,” the Modern Family alum, 54, tells PEOPLE. “I mean, I think you’ve read everything that there is to be said about it.”

The pop superstar and the Kansas City Chiefs tight end, both 36, tied the knot on July 3 at New York City’s Madison Square Garden, before an estimated 1,000 family members, friends and tastemakers.

“We were just very conscious of being respectful to the couple,” Stonestreet says of the ceremony, which he attended with wife Lindsay Stonestreet. “I didn’t want to peep before. I didn’t want to peep after. And then once people started putting stuff out there, of course we were proud to be invited.”

On July 4, the actor shared an Instagram video of him and his wife dressed up for the occasion.

“I guess I can say now. We were at a wedding in New York City last night,” he captioned the post. “Two truly special people found each other and what a joy to be able to celebrate them. And also, Lindsay is so hot.”

The Kansas City Chiefs superfan says he knows Kelce “very well.”

“I know Taylor a little bit and got to hand her an award many years ago, which was fun,” says Eric, who presented Swift with Favorite Country Female Artist at the American Music Awards in 2012.

“We’ve seen Travis from when he was drafted and we’ve seen him through different phases of his life,” he adds. “So when they started dating, we were so happy for him. But we were also happy for Taylor because we know what kind of human being Travis is. So we were excited to celebrate their love with them and a few other people in New York City, and it was just a treat to be there.”

Eric went on to reflect on his favorite aspect of the high-profile event.

“I think my favorite moment was just that they created a place that they could have the normalcy that they deserve,” he says. “And it just happened to be at Madison Square Garden with security making sure everybody was safe and good and they could just have a night for themselves.”

“I really thought of it as what a gift they gave to us too,” he notes. “It’s one thing nobody’s talking about is what a gesture it was to those people that they invited and to welcome us and to provide such an incredible night and then to provide such incredible generous donations to charities in New York and Kansas City and everywhere else.”

The organizations included City Harvest, the Food Bank for N.Y.C., New York Cares, Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, Harvesters in Kansas City, Brad Paisley and Kimberly Paisley’s The Store in Nashville, Helping Harvest in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island Community Food Bank, Feeding America, the ASPCA, Grammy in the Schools and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Eric stars in a new campaign for Coors Light that also features Kelce’s teammate Patrick Mahomes.

“Since I’ve been a kid, I’ve been a Chiefs fan,” he says. “When we drafted Patrick, Brett Veach, the general manager told me, ‘You’re not going to want to miss the next 10, 12 years of Kansas City Chiefs football.’ And he wasn’t wrong.”

“I haven’t missed a home game in Patrick’s career,” he continues. “I flew home every weekend during the last season of Modern Family to make sure that I missed a home game. I watched him straight through the Super Bowl, and I’ve been at every game since.”

Eric concludes, “So needless to say, being able to share space with QB1 of my team and the team that I’ve been a fan with forever is just a real treat and something that I don’t think 16, 15, 17, 18-year-old Eric would believe.”
