The mom of âAmerican Idolâ finalist Keyla Richardson has claimed her daughter was ârobbedâ following the showâs Season 24 finale, where the singer finished third.
âMy baby was robbed,â Katja Richardson wrote on Facebook after Monday nightâs ABC broadcast. âShe did not fail. She was robbed iâm sorry Iâm gonna say it!!â
Keyla, a 29-year-old teacher from Pensacola, Fla., placed behind winner Hannah Harper and runner-up Jordan McCullough in the live finale.
Richardson performed Alicia Keysâ âUn-Thinkable (Iâm Ready)â before singing Whitney Houstonâs âI Love The Lordâ for the hometown segment.
Judge Luke Bryan praised her run on the show during the live broadcast.
âThis whole year I just watched you focus with drive and determination,â Bryan said.
âWeâve seen you just give it your all for your family and your crew and your people and youâve won in our eyes.â
âJust watching you seize every moment has been so inspiring to me,â he added. âCongratulations, great job.â
Despite her momâs reaction, Richardson kept things upbeat as she reflected on her run on the show.
âThe journey has been amazing,â Richardson posted on Instagram. âWe are just getting started #Idol.â
The singer also shared a post on Tuesday alongside fellow âAmerican Idolâ alum Breanna Nix, who finished in third place during Season 23 last year.
âSeason 23 & Season 24 3rd place finalist!â Richardson wrote.
âItâs NOT BAD AT ALL, itâs actually GREAT. Iâm excited about whatâs coming, Itâs only up from here! Love you @breannanixmusic #Idol #Top3.â
The three-hour finale also featured performances from guest mentor Alicia Keys and judges Bryan, Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie, who teamed up for a rendition of Richieâs âDeep River Woman.â
Underwood also performed with MĂśtley CrĂźe, joining the rock band for âHome Sweet Homeâ and âKickstart My Heart.â
Meanwhile, Harper reflected on her win in an Instagram post of her own.
âWhat a wild, beautiful journey this has been,â Harper wrote. âAnd somehow weâre just getting started.â
