Princess Eléonore of Belgium is sparkling in a regal birthday present: her first tiara!

On June 23, Princess Eléonore, 18, made her tiara debut at the state banquet celebrating the state visit from Japan at the Royal Castle of Laeken in Brussels.

The young royal shimmered in a swirling diamond tiara, identified as by Belgian jeweler Cooseman, pairing it with a pale pink dress with a cape neckline and trailing sleeves.

The big night out marked Eléonore’s first time wearing a tiara, and Hello! magazine cited Dutch royal reporter Rick Evers in stating that she received the headpiece as a recent birthday present from her parents.

Princess Eléonore, the youngest of King Philippe and Queen Mathilde’s four children, celebrated her 18th birthday on April 16. Her older sister Princess Elisabeth, 24, similarly made her tiara debut in 2022 in a headtopper that was an 18th birthday present from her parents, The Court Jeweller reported at the time, though she was 20 then.

The King, 66, and Queen, 53, share sons Prince Gabriel, 22, and Prince Emmanuel, 20, and the diplomatic dinner was significant as the first time all four of their kids attended a state banquet hosted for a visiting guest.

Queen Mathilde, Princess Elisabeth and Empress Masakao of Japan also brought the dazzle with their headwear, sporting the Nine Provinces Tiara, the Brabant Laurel Wreath Tiara and Princess Chichibu’s Diamond Honeysuckle Tiara, respectively.

Princess Eléonore became the second European royal to make her tiara debut at a palace party this month, as Princess Ariana of the Netherlands also marked the fashion first last week.

On June 17, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima’s 19-year-old daughter shimmered in Queen Emma’s Diamond Tiara for her first-ever tiara wear at the state banquet celebrating the state visit from Japan at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam.

Ariane broke out a true heirloom by rocking the sparkler, as the all-diamond tiara originally belonged to her great-great-great-grandmother.

Princess Ariane and Princess Eléonore occupy similar positions as the youngest children of a monarch and the younger siblings of future queens. Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands, 22, is the heir apparent to the Dutch throne, while Princess Elisabeth is first in the Belgian line of succession.

The Belgian and Dutch monarchies seem to share a warm bond as well as a border, and Queen Mathilde and Queen Máxima are known to be friends.

Reflecting that connection, the Queen of Belgium is also a godmother to Willem-Alexander and Máxima’s middle daughter, Princess Alexia, 20.
