While chasing down a difficult shot during a women’s doubles quarterfinal, tennis star Demi Schuurs accidentally crashed into a ball girl in a frightening moment that stunned everyone on Centre Court. Play was briefly stopped as concern spread across the stadium, with both players and spectators anxiously watching to see if everyone was okay after the heavy impact.
A Wimbledon player had an ugly crash during a women’s doubles quarterfinal Wednesday.
However, it wasn’t the usual slip on the grass that is so often seen throughout the Grand Slam tournament.
Rather, Demi Schuurs ran into a ball girl while chasing down a ball.
Schuurs, alongside partner Ellen Perez, was serving 3-3 in the first set while facing Shuko Aoyama and Liang En-shuo.
With a deep shot to the baseline from the opposing pair, Schuurs desperately ran to the back of the court to attempt to return the ball with a tough backhand swing.
In doing so, she ran into a ball girl, who was standing in her usual position at the very back of the court.
