Sadie Sink Reveals to Whom She Let Slip Her Top Secret Character in Spider-Man
After keeping her mystery Marvel role under wraps for more than a year, the ‘Stranger Things’ alum admits some of her close ones were in on the secret

Sadie Sink is so close to being able to talk about her top-secret role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. But that doesn’t mean a few close loved ones in her life didn’t already know.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the film’s Los Angeles premiere on Monday, July 27, the Stranger Things alum, 24, reflected on keeping her mystery character under wraps for more than a year before the film’s release.
“I’m kind of a vault, so it wasn’t that hard,” Sink tells PEOPLE of staying quiet.
She adds, “And I don’t know, I was mostly just so excited to join this universe. So I was fine with keeping a secret for a year and a half or however long it’s been.”

As it turns out, Sink wasn’t keeping the secret from everyone.
“Yeah, for sure,” she says when asked if she let it slip to anyone. But only a select few made the cut.
“My family knew, my friends, close friends knew, but yeah, just not the press,” she explains.

That didn’t stop people from trying to crack the Marvel mystery.
“Yes, that has happened,” Sink says when asked whether anyone ever guessed her character to her face, forcing her to play it cool. “But that happens all the time online.”
While Marvel kept her character’s identity closely guarded, fans filled the void with theories. Online speculation has ranged from Jean Grey — a role many believe would usher the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe — to Spider-Man favorite Gwen Stacy.
Others have guessed she could be playing Mayday Parker, Peter Parker’s daughter from an alternate timeline, or Rachel Summers, the powerful telepathic daughter of Jean Grey and Cyclops.
The secrecy surrounding Sink’s role only fueled the frenzy. The actress appeared sparingly in trailers and promotional materials, even poking fun at the speculation in a video shared on the film’s official Instagram account, where she joked that she could only confirm she wasn’t playing Spider-Man or Aunt May — just that she was actually in the movie.
Now that she’s officially part of the MCU, Sink says one of the most rewarding parts of the experience was getting to dive into an entirely new character alongside a welcoming cast.
“I guess [it’s] just so much fun exploring a new character and especially doing that amongst people who are so supportive and welcoming as this cast was,” she says. “[It was] really fun to stretch new muscles as an actor and just have some fun with it. It’s a fun movie.”
