Riley Green Faces a Difficult Decision After One of His Favorite ‘The Voice’ Battles
Riley Green admitted he was both excited and nervous about choosing a winner after Allie Rae and Harmony McKee delivered a memorable performance of “Ain’t No Sunshine” on Season 30 of The Voice.

For the country star, who is serving as a coach on the singing competition for the first time, the decision proved especially difficult. Both singers impressed the panel with their vocal abilities, and their chemistry onstage made it even harder to decide who deserved to advance.
On Monday, October 19, viewers watched the two members of Team Riley go head-to-head in a battle that earned a standing ovation and left their coach facing one of his toughest choices of the season.
How Allie Rae and Harmony McKee Joined Team Riley
At just 15 years old, Allie Rae made an immediate impression during her blind audition with a rendition of Alannah Myles’ “Black Velvet.”

Riley Green turned his chair almost immediately, followed by Kelly Clarkson and Queen Latifah. However, Riley had a decisive advantage: he used his “First In” button, which overrode the other coaches’ choices and automatically secured Allie Rae a place on his team.
Harmony McKee, 19, took a different approach to her audition. Although country music is not typically her preferred genre, she chose Miranda Lambert’s “Gunpowder & Lead,” earning chair turns from Riley and Adam Levine before ultimately joining Team Riley.
With both singers bringing different strengths to the competition, their battle promised to be a compelling test of talent.
A Haunting Performance That Impressed the Coaches

For their battle, Allie Rae and Harmony performed Bill Withers’ classic “Ain’t No Sunshine,” delivering a hauntingly beautiful rendition that allowed both vocalists to demonstrate their range.
Their individual moments showcased their distinct abilities, but it was the way they sang together that made the performance particularly memorable. Their harmonies blended seamlessly, creating a powerful musical moment that impressed the coaches.
The performance ultimately earned a standing ovation from Riley, who appeared genuinely moved by what his two team members had accomplished.
But while the singers had succeeded in winning over the panel, their performance left Riley with an unenviable task: choosing one contestant to move forward.
Kelly Clarkson and Adam Levine Reveal Their Picks

Kelly Clarkson was the first coach to offer her assessment, beginning with Harmony.
“You have the most beautiful resonance. It’s such a beautiful gift you have,” Kelly told the 19-year-old, praising the richness and quality of her voice.
She then turned her attention to Allie Rae, expressing admiration for the teenager’s distinctive style.
“For 15 years old, you have a really rad style,” Kelly said, before revealing that she would lean toward choosing Allie Rae as the winner.
Adam Levine agreed with Kelly’s assessment, also favoring the younger singer.
Queen Latifah, meanwhile, highlighted different strengths in both performers. She praised Allie Rae’s “gorgeous” high notes while recognizing Harmony’s vocal stamina, although she stopped short of naming her preferred winner.
With two coaches leaning toward Allie Rae, the pressure was on Riley to make the final call.
Riley Green Explains Why the Decision Was So Difficult

When Riley finally addressed the contestants, he made no secret of how conflicted he felt.
“This is one that I’ve both been looking forward to quite a bit, and also dreading a little bit,” he admitted.
He began by praising Allie Rae, emphasizing that her talent stood out regardless of her age. He was particularly impressed by the distinctive way she approached certain notes and delivered her phrasing.
“You’re a huge talent for any age,” Riley told her, adding that he believed she had a very promising future.
He then turned to Harmony, describing her as “one of the most talented vocalists on the show.”
Riley praised the way her voice “completely filled the room” and called her overall performance “awesome.”
His words made it clear that he saw considerable potential in both contestants. Neither singer had given him an obvious reason to choose one over the other.
Explaining just how close the competition had been, Riley said he felt the two were “completely neck-and-neck.”

Nevertheless, a decision had to be made.
Riley ultimately named Allie Rae the winner of the battle, allowing the 15-year-old singer to continue her journey on The Voice.
Why Riley Green Chose Allie Rae
Following the performance, Riley discussed his decision in a sit-down interview, describing the showdown as “one of my favorite battles.”
He explained that his choice was also connected to the confidence he had placed in Allie Rae from the very beginning of the competition.
“She’s who I used my ‘First In’ on, I believed in her from the get-go,” he explained. “And I think she’s got a really great chance to go a long way on the show.”
Riley’s decision reflected his belief that Allie Rae had the potential to make a deep run in the competition, even though Harmony had also demonstrated impressive vocal ability.
Kelly Clarkson appeared to share that confidence. After the two contestants left the stage, she reinforced her support for Riley’s choice with a particularly encouraging observation.
“That little girl, she could win,” Kelly told him.

Her comment suggested that Allie Rae’s age was no obstacle to her potential success—and that the young singer could become a serious contender as the season progressed.
Although Harmony McKee delivered a performance that earned praise from across the panel, Riley ultimately decided to put his faith in the contestant he had backed from her very first audition.
The battle may have been one of Riley’s favorites, but it also served as a reminder of how difficult the competition can be when two talented singers are fighting for the same opportunity.
Do you agree with Riley Green’s decision to choose Allie Rae over Harmony McKee, or do you think Harmony deserved to win after their performance of “Ain’t No Sunshine”?
