Prince Harry Appears to Take a More Leading Role Alongside Meghan Markle After Recent UK Visit
Prince Harry may be taking a more prominent role in his relationship with Meghan Markle, according to a royal commentator who believes the couple’s public dynamic has noticeably shifted during their recent international appearances.
Harry and Meghan married in Windsor in 2018 and have two children, seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Princess Lilibet. In recent months, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have undertaken a number of engagements together, including a trip to Australia in April and a visit to the UK last month.
It was during those appearances that royal expert Bronte Coy said she noticed something different: Harry appeared increasingly willing to take the lead.
A change in Harry and Meghan’s public dynamic

Speaking on The Sun’s Royal Exclusive podcast, Coy reflected on the Sussexes’ appearance in Australia, where they travelled in mid-April for a combination of joint and individual work commitments. Archie and Lilibet did not accompany them.
Coy said that before the trip, much of what she had observed from the couple appeared to centre around Meghan.
“I found this really intriguing because I agree that everything I’d seen of them prior to that was the Meghan show,” she said.
Coy suggested that after Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and established their lives in the United States, Meghan appeared to play a significant role in shaping their new direction.
“I think in the US, certainly, when this Megxit happened, she’s very much been sort of the architect of what their life was going to be,” she added.
However, Coy believes their appearances in Australia presented a different picture.
Harry appeared to be ‘leading the charge’
According to Coy, the apparent change continued during Harry and Meghan’s more recent trip to Britain.
She said she was particularly struck by Harry appearing to take a stronger lead during both visits.
“When they arrived in Australia, and in this UK trip as well recently, it more felt like he was the one that was leading the charge, which surprised me,” Coy said.
She suggested this could represent a gradual “tonal shift” in the couple’s relationship over the years rather than an abrupt change.
During their UK visit, Harry and Meghan attended a private meeting with King Charles at Highgrove House on July 10.
According to the original report, the meeting also marked the King’s first encounter with his two youngest grandchildren since 2022.
Earlier appearances prompted a different interpretation
The latest observations contrast with assessments made of Harry and Meghan during some previous public appearances.
When the couple attended the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Kingston in 2024, body-language expert Judi James interpreted Meghan’s behaviour as suggesting that she was taking the more dominant role.
Speaking to Woman Magazine at the time, James focused particularly on Meghan’s physical gestures towards Harry, describing her “touch rituals” as conveying what she called “loving ownership.”
Harry, meanwhile, was described as appearing slightly awkward during the appearance.
Those earlier observations make Coy’s interpretation of the Sussexes’ recent outings particularly notable. Rather than Meghan appearing to set the tone, Coy believes Harry has recently looked more comfortable taking the initiative.
Whether this represents a lasting change in their relationship cannot be established from public appearances alone. However, Coy’s comments suggest that, at least in their recent engagements in Australia and Britain, the Duke of Sussex has appeared to occupy a more visibly leading role alongside his wife.
