Six Royals Could Face Title Questions Under a Future King William, Commentator Claims

Prince William could oversee a significantly smaller Royal Family when he eventually becomes King, with one royal commentator suggesting that six prominent family members could face questions over their titles.

The claim comes from royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, who named Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, Princess Lilibet, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie as those he believes could potentially be affected.

However, the suggestion is commentary about a future reign, not an announced plan from Prince William or the Palace.

Harry and Meghan at the Center of the Speculation

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have once again become the focus of royal attention following their reported return to Britain.

Their move has prompted renewed discussion about whether relations with the wider Royal Family could improve, particularly after years of tension between Harry and William.

Fitzwilliams argued that the continuing rift between the brothers could become particularly significant once William takes the throne.

“As long as the rift with William persists,” he said, there remains the possibility that William could seek to further reduce the size of the Royal Family when he becomes King.

Six Names Raised

Fitzwilliams suggested that any future move involving royal titles could potentially affect Harry and Meghan as well as their children, Archie and Lilibet.

He also included William’s cousins Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.

“They and their children and Beatrice and Eugenie could lose their titles,” Fitzwilliams said.

He argued that such a change could reduce their royal appeal, although he acknowledged that their existing public profiles would probably remain significant for some time.

There has been no announcement from William confirming that he intends to take such action.

The speculation comes amid continued discussion about how the monarchy might operate under William.

A smaller group of working royals has long been part of the wider conversation surrounding the future of the institution, but Fitzwilliams’ comments go further by raising the possibility of changes involving specific titles.

The debate is unfolding while the Royal Family is also facing renewed controversy surrounding Princess Diana.

Her brother, Earl Spencer, has recently made a series of allegations while promoting his new book about Diana, including his claim that Charles told him, “we’ll forget her soon enough,” following her death in 1997.

Buckingham Palace challenged Spencer’s account, saying the pain of grief can affect judgment and memory even many years later.

Spencer subsequently accused the King of “gaslighting” him and has continued to defend his version of events.

Against that already tense backdrop, speculation about what William could eventually do as King has added another unresolved question to the monarchy’s future — particularly for the six family members Fitzwilliams believes could find their royal status under scrutiny.
