“YOU NEED TO BE VERY SAFE…” — and then the line went dead. Fox News reporter Aishah Hasnie was live on air, describing the terrifying moments before gunfire erupted at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner — when she suddenly mentioned a chilling warning allegedly given by Karoline Leavitt’s husband.

Fox News has faced criticism once more during its coverage of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday, April 25. The network was among the first to report the alarming news that gunfire had erupted at the Hilton hotel.

Donald Trump and his wife, Melania, alongside other cabinet officials, were quickly evacuated by the Secret Service, and the gathering was subsequently postponed. Trump then held an emergency press conference where additional details about the shooter were revealed.

During Fox News’ broadcast, they interviewed their own correspondent, Aisah Hasnie, who was attending the dinner and seated with Karoline Leavitt’s husband, Nicholas Riccio, 60.

Aisah reported, “The Press Secretary’s husband was one of our guests; he was sitting right next to me. Right as dinner was starting, the National Anthem played, and then he leaned over and said, ‘I watched you on TV, you do a great job, but you need to be very safe.’

“He was very serious when he said that to me, and he kinda looked around the room and said, ‘There are some–'”. The connection then unexpectedly dropped, with numerous viewers suspecting it was intentionally terminated, reports the Mirror US.

One posted on X: “They didn’t even try to reconnect. That call was dropped on purpose.” A second agreed: “I was listening to her live. That was definitely FOX who cut off the call. I really wanted to hear the remainder of her comment.” A third acknowledged, “My jaw dropped. They literally cut her off. Wake up, peeps.” While a fourth chimed in: “Dropped on purpose. Completely staged.”

Karoline had shown up at the event with her husband after announcing yesterday that she was beginning maternity leave. The press secretary is expecting her second child next month.

Just as attendees were wrapping up the salad course of the White House Correspondents’ dinner, Donald and his wife, Melania, were seen talking with Karoline Leavitt and CBS’s Weijia Jiang when pandemonium broke out. Gunfire rang out, prompting guests to seek cover beneath their tables while the Trumps were swiftly removed from the venue.

That evening, the U.S. president delivered a press briefing, where he shared disturbing footage of the gunman rushing security following the shooting.

“He was running full blast, but they got him,” Trump said. During his remarks, he also praised his wife for her composure.

He said, “I want to thank the first lady for what was a rather traumatic experience for her. There was a lot of action taking place up there very quickly, but again, the response time was really incredible.”

The president said Melania responded swiftly to the sound of the gunshot. He initially “sort of thought it was a tray” while “she knew immediately what happened.”

The latest is that the man in his 30s from California has been arrested with additional information emerging every minute.
