Art lovers with a soft spot for crime dramas might just love this six-part series set in the French Alps where a killer fancies themselves an artist, arranging their victims’ bodies as artworks. Titled Polar Park, this French series has just become available to stream in the UK — and might just be the perfect weekend binge.
Set in the French village of Mouthe, Polar Park sees a Parisian crime writer roped into a series of gruesome murders.
Branded “quirky” in the synopsis, the series follows novelist David Rousseau (Jean-Paul Rouve), who attempts to overcome his writer’s block with a change of scenery.
He sets off to the coldest village in France, hoping to shed some light on a long-buried family secret. But instead, his personal journey crosses paths with an art-loving murderer on a killing spree.
All six episodes of Polar Park are currently available to stream (or binge, should you be so inclined) on Channel 4’s platform.
This Is Not a Murder Mystery, titled after René Magritte’s The Treachery of Imagery aka the ‘This Is Not A Pipe’ painting, centres on a group of brilliant minds reunited for an exhibition at a lavish English country estate.
Think Magritte, Salvador Dalí, Lee Miller, Max Ernst and Man Ray and more all under the same roof as a killer is on the loose, targeting them one by one in murders inspired by their artworks.
Also available on Channel 4’s streaming platform, the series kicks off with Magritte being framed for a murder he swears he didn’t commit. Determined to clear his name, the painter agrees to provide the local police with insights into his colleagues’ secrets.
