Phil Collins Opens Up About Prospects of Releasing New Music: “There Are Some Things I Could Finish”

The former Genesis frontman and solo superstar has not released a new studio project in sixteen years.
When Genesis concluded their celebrated The Last Domino? reunion run in March 2022, it signaled both the final chapter for the iconic British group and Phil Collins’s departure from live concert performances.
The musician has contended with significant medical complications in recent years, including extensive neurological damage, mobility issues, and severe alcohol addiction that culminated in a critical hospitalization in 2024.
However, during a recent discussion with Prog, Collins indicated that his recording career may not be entirely finished. When questioned regarding the potential for future recording projects, he refused to dismiss the possibility.
Collins noted that he retains his home studio facilities and expressed interest in experimenting with existing material, observing that uncompleted tracks remain alongside fully realized recordings, making future releases possible.
Reflecting on his health battles, Collins detailed his severe relapse into alcohol addiction following previous periods of sobriety, which led to organ failure and life support intervention in 2024. He recalled that family members gathered in Switzerland during the crisis, during which his renal and hepatic systems were severely compromised before his eventual recovery.

Addressing his current condition, Collins confirmed marked physical improvements following ongoing physical therapy three times weekly, five knee surgeries, and three years of continuous sobriety.
A 45th-anniversary expanded edition of his debut solo album, Face Value, is scheduled for release on September 8.
